Pixel Tools App Reviews

Measurements start at 1,1 intead of 0,0!

The ruler is effectively useless. You can set an origin and then measure the distance to some other point. The problem is if you set the origin, the initial value of W and H are 1 and 1 instead of 0 and 0! Move a pixel to the left, and it goes from 1 to -2. So, if you have positive measurements, you need to subtract one, but if you have negative measurements, add one. Sure you can do the math, but for $4.99 you shouldn't have to.

This is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for

I use Adobe Premiere Pro on a daily basis and do a good bit of compositing both in Premiere and After Effects. After Effects has a great little “Info” window that tells you the color and positino pixel info of whatever your mouse is hovering over. This would be really useful in premiere as well, but doesn’t exist. The closest thing in premiere I can find is to use “Ultra Key,” select a color, and then see the pixel info, but that’s a really clunky process. This app gives me real-time pixel data anywhere on my workspace. It’s beautiful! A sincere thank you to the fine folks at Sol Robots!

Pixel tools is great and is easy to use

Very helpful tool for precise graphics. Most important feature: very easy to use.

The developers rock!

Im my last review I gave them 5 stars and mentioned that I’d love to be able to move the cursor with my arrow keys. Imagine my surprise when 2 weeks later another version comes out with arrow key support! It even works on retina! These developers are awesome. PS When i use the arrows I get an annoying beep from my speakers for every pixel moved, but I can live with that.

Works as advertised

My only gripe is that you cannot turn off the pixel grid that appears with 4x (or greater) magnification

Confusing to use

How to measure distance between two points? - Not so obvious to me.

Broken on Mavericks!

Please update this app to support OS X Mavericks. When I launch the app, it appears in the dock for a few seconds then disappears.

first 5 minutes not bad - promising

I agree with the visualization comment below. This app is controlled primarily through keyboard commands, which works okay for me, but until i grasp all of them it will take me more than 5 minutes to fully appreciate the feature set of this app. i do wish that it had a menubar icon or someway quick to activate the app.

Bad User Interface

I played around with this for 10 minutes and couldn't figure out how to use. I tried the keyboard shortcuts and mouse, and it's just a struggle to A) figure out how to use and B) actually using it. Not easy to get the dimensions. Doesn't have a nice re-draggable rectangle or something where you can visualize and adjust what you're trying to measure.

Great App

Save me a ton of time measuring out to get my web app pixel perfect!

Just what I needed

Without question the best multi-purpose pixel ruler I've come across. I've been a web developer & designer for 6 years and this one is my current go-to since Apple's switch to lean more upon apps (rather than widgets). Compared to all the more expensive apps out there, this one gives you alot for a few bucks— takes the cake IMO.

Pretty fantastic app

I've been using it extensively for a week. It's great. Buy it if you need to measure stuff and copy color codes.

Very nice app!

This app is quite useful for anyone creating graphic content such as graphics, developing user interface, etc. It's a no-brainer at $3.
